COMPANY OVERVIEW
Cowles Landscape Architecture provides Landscape Architecture services and Certified Arborist consultation for development / management of land in North Florida and beyond. Our focus is to provide artistic vision based on ecological knowledge, technical expertise and personal commitment. We believe client perception of CLA is an important part of long-term repeat business, and client satisfaction is our goal. CLA was established in 2009 (owner professional experience since 2000.) CLA is insured and licensed.
CLA also provides professional work in areas beyond traditional Landscape Architectural practices, for example: demolition, erosion control, geometry, grading, utilities, details, irrigation system design, environmental permitting (including preparing NFI & EIA plans/narratives,) FDOT permitting, FDEP permitting, NPDES permitting, tree mitigation reports, cost-estimating and construction administration.
Approach
CLA has practical hands-on work experience balanced with technical competency and knowledge. The landscape architectural knowledge of CLA is rooted in horticulture and design theory – with an understanding of the Florida landscape, specifically the North Florida region (including coastal areas.) The past work experiences with engineering / permitting and current arborist certification provide a thorough complement to the landscape architectural services offered.
The ranges of public, institutional and residential design projects are successfully accomplished by direct client communication with submittals of graphics and documentation in a variety of media.

For as long as I can remember, I have loved the outdoors. As a child, I spent my days growing up on a farm, digging in dirt, building tree houses and exploring. My mom likes to re-tell the story of when my Kindergarten teacher asked me what I was drawing so intently on the ground, I replied “house plans.” I was born and raised in Tallahassee and have always appreciated the beauty that lies in North Florida.
My family has left a lasting impression on me. My mother, an interior designer and artist, has always encouraged me in my painting of landscapes. My grandfather Carl Ferrell, Sr. (still working) was an exceptional builder here in Tallahassee. I try to emulate his work ethic and standards. I am told I am a lot like my great grandfather Dan, who was a Landscape Architect with the Florida Parks Service. I use his drawing table to this day.
